Rats in drains
Ever since the introduction of drain systems rats have used them as comfortable and habitable breeding grounds. They are often located some distance underground which makes it virtually impossible for any natural predator, such as, the domestic cat to catch them. When infestations of rats occurs it becomes highly unpleasant for anyone affected and extremely difficult to deal with.
Rats in drainpipes (redundant drainpipes)
Redundant drainpipes, or old connections that are no longer used provide an excellent environment for rats to thrive. Perhaps your property, or a nearby dwelling, has been extended at some stage? This could potentially mean that some, if not all of the original drains are not being used for their original purpose.
Redundant drain pipes are dry environments where rats can live and breed. They also offer direct and easy access to the main drains that lead to your house and carry food waste that is flushed away from every kitchen sink. Rats could possibly gain entry into your house through the drains!
Any rat infestation that is not surface related has to be a drainage system problem originating either from old redundant drains, or damaged drains that have now developed cracks along the pipe network.
Our experienced engineers will establish exactly what has caused the problem with a thorough drainage ‘rat check’ using CCTV equipment. They are trained to locate any points of entry into your property and the blocking of any gaps is usually quite straight forward. A patch lining repair is positioned over the crack or access hole to seal off any redundant pipe network; gaps, or damaged areas to prevent rats from ever gaining access to your home in the future. Sometimes it will be necessary for our engineers to fit a stainless steel rat stopper into the main outlet drain leading from your property. This allows waste to flow out and will prevent rats from getting in.
Such remedies are relatively inexpensive to install and do not require costly excavations. In fact, there won’t be any visible signs that we have even attended your property.
